Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to wear for my lesson?

You will be required to wear a helmet. If you do not have one we can provide one for you for the first few lessons. Also, you need to wear comfortable, loose fitting pants and boots or hard-soled shoes. We discourage tennis shoes/sneakers as the feet can slip out of the stirrups and it is not safe. Our most important priority is your safety.

What if it is raining/snowing or there is bad weather?

We have an indoor riding area which we use if it is raining/snowing or in the event of any weather that is not conducive to riding.

Is it difficult to get to LRA?

No, just follow the directions on the "Directions" link at the top of this page and you will see how we are centrally located near Lexington (the Horse Capital of the World), the Kentucky Horse Park and major interstates.

Who will train and teach me how to ride?

Top trainers and teachers experienced for decades in saddleseat/western and other disciplines. Our instuctors have not only trained horses but have taken riders to the top--winning state and world championships time and time again.

What if I cannot make my scheduled lesson time?

No problem. Just call or email LRA and let them know you cannot make it--please try to do so 24 hours in advance so we do not schedule an instructor and get a horse ready unnecessarily.

Do I need to purchase all kinds of equipment before I ride?

Not really. You may borrow helmets from the LRA and as long as you wear boots and comfortable pants, you fulfill our requirements to take lessons. Of course, there is proper riding attire for lessons, participating in the barn and showing. We will be more than glad to provide you with further information as it becomes necessary.

Does the LRA just give horseback riding lessons?

No, we do much, much more than that. Although our goal was originally to educate folks about riding, we have evolved into a barn that teaches and develops confidence, leadership, respect and other skills amongst children and adults. We also have many social activities throughout the year which have proven to bond families together enhancing the experience both children and adults have with this sport. Essentially, the LRA provides a fun, family atmosphere where many feel at home and there is a place for everyone.

Our youth club has proven to be a great PLUS for our kids and parents are enjoying themselves too!

There is so much to offer--we can't possibly describe it to you in words. You just have to come and EXPERIENCE THE LEXINGTON RIDING ACADEMY!!!!!!!
